What is an IBCLC?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) is a healthcare professional who specialises in the clinical management of breastfeeding.
The IBCLC certification is recognised throughout the world as the premier global credential in the lactation care profession.
I have taken over 90 hours of formal lactation education – alongside learning through over 1,000 hours of direct ‘on the job’ support over the last several years.
I have 7 years experience supporting local families with feeding their babies, and am experiences in a wide variety of complex feeding situations.
I am passionate about inclusivity and sensitive to the needs of all parents and children.
The Technical Stuff
The IBCLC certification is your assurance that the lactation professional on your team have the specialised knowledge and skills to provide excellence in lactation care.
As an IBCLC, we undergo a rigorous exam process and recertification every 5 years.
An IBCLC is certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®), independently accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). An IBCLC works in a wide variety of settings, providing leadership, advocacy, professional development, and research in the lactation field.
We have a strong ethical code and are accountable to Standards of Practice and a Code of ethics, as well as working within a defined Scope of Practice.
